2026-01-03
Meeting of the Scientific and Executive Board of the Journal of Ahl al-Bayt (as) Teachings
2026-01-03Ayatollah Najm al-Din Tabasi, a member of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom, emphasized the significance of Ghadir in shaping Shia identity, describing this event as the core of Shia beliefs and a symbol of unity for the Muslim Ummah.
According to Shafaqna, the specialized Ghadir Studies Workshop was organized by the Ghadirstan Institute, the Imam Mobin Research Center, and Tooba-ye Mohebbat Publications, and was held over two days at the Imamate Cultural Foundation Hall in Qom. The event aimed to explain the various dimensions of the Ghadir event, introduce its scholarly and cultural potential, and examine the cultural landscape of the Islamic world with emphasis on sources from both Shia and Sunni traditions. The workshop was attended by seminary scholars, students, and Ghadir researchers.
During his speech, Ayatollah Tabasi congratulated attendees on the Ghadir celebrations and highlighted the historical and ongoing intellectual and cultural significance of Ghadir. He noted:
“Ghadir is not merely a historical event; it represents a continuous intellectual and cultural movement throughout Islamic history. It is commendable that we prepare to celebrate Eid al-Ghadir, which demonstrates our devotion and love for Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him). For over a thousand years, despite numerous challenges, Shia Muslims have observed and honored this great occasion.”
Referring to historical sources, he emphasized that Ghadir has always been recognized and commemorated by the Muslim community, with preparations for celebrations beginning ten days in advance. He described Ghadir as the pillar of Shia faith and stressed the need for greater attention to this issue. He also underscored that Ghadir belongs not only to Shia Muslims but to all Muslims and humanity, and likened the anticipation and celebration of Ghadir to the preparation for Ashura, urging the organization of grand celebrations in accordance with the tradition of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
Ayatollah Tabasi further addressed the historical attempts of adversaries to diminish the importance of Ghadir, highlighting that despite these efforts, the event remains vivid and celebrated with increasing grandeur each year. He cited Sheikh Mufid’s practices in Baghdad, where he would perform Eid prayers in the central square on Ghadir, as a testimony to its enduring significance.
In conclusion, he criticized the modern media attacks against the Ahl al-Bayt, noting the proliferation of thousands of satellite channels that distort the image of true Islam. Nevertheless, he expressed optimism that the fragrance of the Prophet’s family (peace be upon him) will soon reach the entire world, and the light of truth will shine forth. Ayatollah Tabasi reaffirmed:
“We are Ghadiri, proud of this identity, and we will exert every effort to promote the culture of Ghadir globally.”
